As the U.S. Senate continues debating the Bipartisan Infrastructure Package, Senators Mark Kelly (AZ) and Cynthia Lummis (WY) have introduced Amendment # 2609 which would add truck parking funding to the legislation.
Kelly/Lummis Amendment # 2609 would ensure that states use federal funding for the expansion of truck parking capacity. Specifically, it would require that they use at least 0.7% of the funding they receive under the National Highway Performance Program for truck parking projects. While 0.7% might not sound like much, it actually adds up to over $1 billion over the course of the legislation.
Contact your Senators to support Kelly/Lummis Amendment # 2609 and explain why they need to include truck parking funding in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Package. There is widespread support for funding that would actually create more parking spaces to help drivers find safe and accessible places to rest, but Senators need to know how this will help the nation’s truckers.
Let them know that the parking shortage is a highway safety crisis and a daily challenge for truckers. The Senate is moving quickly on the Infrastructure legislation, so don’t wait!
We will provide updates as the Senate Infrastructure Package moves towards a final vote. Thank you!
